"Good is the enemy of Great!" ~ Jim Collins

My all time favorite book!  This is another must read if you are interested in an effective early childhood organization.   Just focusing on high-quality classrooms and teacher practices can leave you with a lot of soft issues that affect your organization’s success .  These issues include turnover, gossip, missing industry changes, and customer engagement.  How can you do both?

I would guess if you are playing with me on this website your classrooms are already at a level of quality you and your parents are proud of.   So it is time to focus on building the strength of your organization.  Collins reviewed 10 great companies against companies that were the second best in their industries.  The following are what he found as principles of great organizations.

  • Level 5 Executive Leadership
  • First Who, Then What
  • Confront the Brutal Facts (But Never Lose Faith I the Potential for Greatness)
  • The Hedgehog Concept
  • A Culture of Discipline
  • Technology Accelerators
  • The Flywheel and the Doom Loop

Make sure to follow my blog.  I will blog on each topic and discuss how they relate to Early Childhood Education & leadership.

In the comments below, tell me how you have seen these principles in action in early childhood organizations.
